Classified Ads and Requests for Information
The other purpose of this page is to help you find somebody you served with down south or, perhaps, somebody you didn't serve with but would like to contact. Please feel free to use the contact forms to send your request to any member of Council and we'll post it here. Entries will be available for at least 12 months unless contact is made earlier.
Can you help these people find the items the want to buy or sell, or the people they seek? Again, please use the contact form for any Councillor and we'll pass the appropriate information .
winterers to participate
in a research
Request for ANARE members to participate in a survey targeting anyone who has wintered in Antarctica.
This study aims to investigate the psychological factors related to adjustment to Antarctic stations. Specifically, we are interested in predicting one's social fitness to the station, job satisfaction, job performance, mood, sleep quality and cognitive performance.
This study comes from a PhD student at Lincoln University (New Zealand). If you are interested, click on the link below to know more about it and to take part in it:
The Speaker Co-ordinator at the Eastern and Mountain Districts Radio Club is looking for a VK0 amateur radio person in Melbourne eastern suburbs who is willing to speak on about his/her experiences as a radio operator in the Antarctic.
" Australian Antarctic radio operators use the callsign 'vk0'. A 'vk0' contact is prized by we mainlanders! We would love to hear from a vk0 about the challenges of radio communication in such a harsh and remote environment.
Are there any Anare Club members with vk0
experience who would be prepared to share their
experiences with us one Friday over a cuppa?"
Request for killer whale photos at Macca!
Since 1994 a previous expeditioner Margie Morrice and myself have been accumulating opportunistic observations for killer whales off Macquarie Island. We now have quite a few pictures of the whales and from those we have been able to piece together a who's who gallery of regulars and not so regulars.
Our aim is to learn more about the year round (yes winter included) visitation and behaviours of the whales when they are at Macca.
Margie and I know the whales are a popular photo opportunity so we would really appreciate it if past Macca expeditioners or those who know such persons could forward any digital images of the whales to John to help us with our aims.
All photos(including old skool analogue pics that we can scan and return to the owner) are of interest. Their importance is greatly increased if you also have a date, location and anything else that describes the sighting you have made.
Prints can be sent to John van den Hoff at the AAD.
Photos and any observational data will be credited to the owners.
Hope to hear from you past Macca expos....
Cheers, John and Margie

Expedition to Heard Island - 2015
Robert Schmieder organized and led a privately funded expedition to Heard Island in January 1997. The main purpose of the expedition was amateur radio; we set a world record for the number of contacts (80,000), at the very bottom of the sunspot cycle. The expedition is fully documented in my book "VK0IR Heard Island", published by my organization, Cordell Expeditions (www.cordell.org). Currently I am working on a return expedition to Heard Island, for 2015 (see www.heardisland.org) and would welcome contacts with anyone interested in the project. Email Robert

We are a
group of roughly 75 G4 (10yo) Mt Eliza
Primary students. The focus statement for
the students is ‘Humans affect the
survival of living things in Antarctica’.
We are touching on everything from
geography and climate to exploration and
animals. Our times are very flexible, if
we are fortunate enough to have a speaker
then we can work around available times.
We will be studying the region until the
end of Term 3 which is until the 20th
Sept. So ideally it would be between now

Jacqueline Walker- Do you have archived photographs from the 60s? My Uncle, Kevin "Mumbles" Walker went on a 3 month field expedition to the Amery Ice Shelf by dog sled..and I am wondering if there would be photographs to access online? Can anyone help?

Revival of Phillip Law Lecture at the Antarctic Festival
The Phillip Law Lectures has been revived as part of the forthcoming Australian Antarctic Festival, and the selection of Professor Tony Worby to deliver this year's lecture.
Current Exhibition: Extended
4th March 2016!
About the Exhibition
The Royal Historical Society of Victoria is fortunate in having acquired over the years a considerable amount of material relating to Macpherson Robertson. This includes photographs, confectionery packaging, recipe books, company documents, scrapbooks and other ephemera, donated by the Robertson family and by former MacRobertson’s staff. We are mounting this exhibition to showcase this material and to give some account of the life and achievements of this remarkable man, about whom the public knows too little.- See more at: http://www.historyvictoria.org.au/temporary-exhibitions#sthash.KukG1B1B.dpuf
Drill Hall, 239 A’Beckett St, Melbourne
